Our Winter Women's Bible study is going through "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World" by Joanna Weaver. I am really enjoying this book so far and we're only on chapter 3! The author has a way of speaking biblical truth and merging that with real life examples. She speaks right to you and its very easy to follow along.
I am a little behind in blogging about Chapter 3 but hey at least I'm getting it done before Chapter 4!! :)
Whitney spoke this week and did such a wonderful job (as usual) she has such a sweet heart and spirit and I love hearing what God puts on her heart.
This week what got to me was the Worry vs Concern. Whit had us all write down everything that we worry about on a daily basis and what is on our thoughts and minds. And then we went back after reading some scripture and took a second look at our cards and categorize them as worry or concern. Wouldn't you know almost everything on my list was a worry, something I couldn't do anything about and something I didn't want to let go of because my worrying about that item made me feel like I had control over things.
Control. That seems to be one of the huge things I struggle with. And something that spoke straight to my heart was this verse that Whit had down on her notes. 1 John 4:18 and question was "Are you secure in God's love?" And that brought me to my favorite verse, Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, Declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future". Now that verse combined with the other verse made me have a mental AHA moment. God loves us, he has PLANS for us, beautiful things in store for us, he knows my entire life from beginning to end. He created me, he knows every single curly hair on my ever so large head.
I would always think when times got tough or I was in a rough situation, Jere 29:11 well God has plans for me so surely I will get though this. but he doesn't just have plans for the bad times, he has plans for the good times, and so often I try to create my good times. I try to make things happen that *I* want to happen because well it sounds good to me so why can't it be good for me?
I have really been challenged this week to focus on God's plan for me every day in every situation. Its so easy to run to him in the hard times and want a way out, but I really need to be reminded to turn to him in the good times and thank him and praise him.
I'm sorry if this post was all willy nilly, i need to start blogging closer to the actual lesson. :) I am excited to share with y'all what else I learn!!
