Book Review: A Christmas by the Sea by Melody Carlson

My latest review is on a quick read by Melody Carlson. I have read many of her books, Back in the early 2000's she wrote a lot of christian chick lit that I loved. So i was excited when her name popped up on my monthly books to request email.

This is a quick little read, at just a little over 160 pages. I read it in an entire evening. And still had time left over! Its a sweet story about a Mom and her teen son who are going back to where she spent summers with her grandparents. Her grandpa recently passed away and left her a cottage. She intends to fix it up quickly and sell it for some much needed income for her and her son. But of course it doesn't quite go that smoothly, and her son is desperate to live there. Add in a cute dog, some little girls who are neighbors that they befriend, a cute guy ( of course! ) and your requisite woman who thinks she has dibs on the aforementioned cute guy. It was a little predictable. But it was sweet and like I said, a fast little read.

Having previously read many of Ms. Carlson's books I was disappointed with how the characters were portrayed. I felt like they weren't fully developed. For instance, the romance in this book was less than a month, and then they were engaged. I found that hard to believe. I think you could fall in love with someone quickly, but how you would know you were going to spend the rest of your life with them in under a month....? Especially with kids involved, that didn't seem very practical or thought out.

Other than that it was a sweet book, and if you're looking for a short book that will put you in a festive holiday spirit this might just be for you!

Thanks to Revell for providing me with a book in exchange for my always honest opinions!

This is My Love Story

In the predawn hours of New Years Day 2004 I was faced with a choice. After spending New Year's Eve at a local bar with a friend, I came home and through the events that transpired, I saw clearly a vision of my future. What would happen to me if I continued on the path I had been taking. I had a choice to make and within a split second I knew what my answer was going to be. I grew up in a Christian home. I was saved at an early age. When I was 13/14 on my Birthday Sunday, Pastor Martin preached a sermon about those of us who had been saved at an early age and knowing if your salvation was real or not. I spent the rest of the day and my party tormented because I could not remember what was in my heart when I was younger. That night I gave my life to Christ and knew without a shadow of a doubt that I was his, and going to Heaven. In the years that followed I continued to be very active in church. I played the Piano and was in charge of Sunday night offertory, I was t...

New Bedroom Decor!

Every Year my SIL outdoes herself with the gifts she gave us the year before. This year was no exception! She made this amazing picture for me. If you look close all of the pieces of the heart are small pictures of me and my friends! I was amazed! I still can't get over it! I just love it so much!  So I decided to hang it above my bed. I don't have a headboard and I have really felt like my room was lacking something to pull it together. I think this picture does it nicely! And yes, I sleep with a stuffed animal. I'm single, don't judge! I also sleep with 5 pillows. I tend to fall out of bed. They are like my bumpers! HA! Seriously though I just love it and it's so neat to look at all the pics of different friends and stages in my life and remember all of the fun memories! Thanks Liz!!
